ONLINE MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE WORLD BANK MISSION IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA WITHIN THE "MOLDOVA EDUCATION REFORM" PROJECT (MERP)

 

Today, June 2, 2020, managers of the Public Institution "Moldova Social Investment Fund" participated in an online meeting with representatives of the World Bank mission in the Republic of Moldova, led by Janssen Teixeira.

 

Discussions were focused on carrying out activities related to monitoring the implementation of subprojects within Component A.2 of the “Moldova Education Reform” Project (MERP), work perspectives, challenges that arise in current conditions affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and expected results.

 

Monitoring of the Environmental Management Framework implementation within the process of renovation of educational institutions, carried out by the PI MSIF within the Project, was another topic addressed during the discussion.

 

"In the context of the crisis triggered by the pandemic COVID-19, school renovation process is not interlocked by these challenges. Works at all 11 construction sites are being carried out according to the schedule in compliance with the protection measures against spreading of the COVID-19 virus. This year, until the beginning of the new school year, we plan to commission works in 8 district general schools", the Director of the PI MSIF, Iurie Chiorescu, mentioned.

 

In total, 17 district general educational institutions will be renovated, and the investment for each lyceum will amount to up to 700 thousand US dollars, received within the Component A.2 of the "Moldova Education Reform" Project financed by the World Bank and managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, through PI "Moldova Social Investment Fund". At the moment, at 4 sites civil works are finalized, at 11 are on going, in 1 institution - at the stage of bids evaluation, and in 1 institution – at the stage of cost estimate elaboration.
